Responsibility: How Does It Play?

Responsibility is a word that sometimes brings out hesitation, including thoughts of assigned duties and expected performance.  And the truth is that very often, that is exactly what is involved; and it can serve us well.  However, responsibility has a much deeper meaning that makes it a powerful individual asset and puts each of us in charge of our own lives.

Recently, I attended a gathering where we discussed our individual choices and the affect they have on our lives; and this conversation was familiar to me since I speak of choice repeatedly in my book, Soul Talk With Cells.  And in this group, the discussion focused on positive and negative perspectives, for example, when looking at half of a glass of water, is it half full? – which would be positive, or half empty? – which would be negative; and other positive versus negative viewpoints were mentioned like good/evil, unlimited/limited, abundance/scarcity, and many others.  Such perspectives are usually well ingrained habits; and becoming aware of them is the first step to considering new patterns.

A surprisingly enlightening exercise that we practiced was one with a large bowl of water and some pebbles; and as we sat in a circle, we tossed pebbles into the still water and watched the ripples go out to the edge and come back.  As simplistic as this seems, when put in the context of choice, the symbolic message is profound.  Indeed, it is worth spending time to notice how certain the return of similar energy is; recognition of this can be life changing; and you can discover this for yourself.

As with pebbles and water, notice that when a choice or perspective is presented into a neutral environment, vibrations go out from that choice; and then responses return back to you in similar energy   Realization of this is powerful; every choice returns the same energy in which it was sent out; so being aware of what we send out has power in our opportunity to choose.

An everyday example of this would be choosing the positive energy of the thought that “there is enough.”  Then that thought goes out into the environment and returns the life experience of “there is enough” back to you as the creator of that thought.  Whereas, if the thought generated is negative as with “there is not enough,” then that is the experience that you have returning to you in your life; and examples of this energy are endless in the universe.

Awareness of our thoughts, in the moment that we make choices, offers enormous benefit especially when we integrate, and own this reciprocal energy; for it is in owning this mutual energy that we open ourselves naturally to responsibility for our lives in the moment of each choice; and that kind of responsibility is a freedom of choice that puts us individually in charge of our lives.
